Quotes
1. We can assume that visually informative texts achieve
rhetorical organization, just as do text which are relative non- informative
visually. Both types must provide direction to the reader as to how the text is
to be read: Pg. 36
2. But this characterization does seem sufficiently
influential within our disciple to be considered the norm, the product we
encourage in our practice within the “current-traditional paradigm.” Pg. 36
3. Cataldo suggests that the principles codified by
experiments in perception can be usefully applied to the visual/verbal design
of graphic texts. Perhaps the most relevant law is that of equilibrium, or
pragnanz, which suggests that items in a visual field strive for balance or
equilibrium with other items in the field. The wetlands text works well, in
part, because the distribution of print on the first on the first on the first
page achieves equilibrium simultaneously along several axes: Pg. 39
4. Our results show that lines may be short or long, a page
may have neat margins or ragged margins. No matter. What is critical is whether
the lines represent meaningful groups of information. It is this matching of
visual design to the constraints of cognitive processing that makes for
efficiency. Pg. 42
My Comments
1. I feel this was unnecessary information within the article,
because this is common sense. Also, there should not be much non informative
information because it defeats the purpose of your writing, if you are not
informing your audience of something.
2. Within the paragraph of the quote it states the basic
common format most people use and the style is set up. I found this very
interesting because its true and I never realized I set most of my papers up in
this format, unintentionally.
3. This quote basically states that your paper is easier for
the reader to understand if your paragraphs are set with equilibrium. Although
I do not agree with this statement because I feel the topics in the paper I
want the reader to understand better are long and more in detail then the rest.
This makes my writings flow better and help the reader understand the point I
am trying to get across more thoroughly.
4. Essentially this quote to be over powers the entire
article because it basically everything else that you just read wasn’t true. I
stand by this quote and think it’s very true, no matter what the style of your
paper is set up as long as you have a clear cut message then your read with
comprehend what you consider important.
